STREET FOOTBALL
WORLD FESTIVAL BERLIN 06 |
|
The Streetfootballworld Festival 2006 is a milestone for
the Streetfootballworld. It is an event that is to show
the period of 4 years, the event during which the best
world teams of the other dimension of the game will meet
together and play to win the world streetfootball
champion title. However, this festival is something more
than just pure competition. It is a place where you can
see the best practices and models of approach within the
FIFA World Cup, supported by the FIFA Movement “Football
for Hope”. The 2006 Festival is, in addition, an
official part of the FIFA World Cup 2006 artistic and
cultural programme which is to make people more familiar
with football, art and culture of ordinary people, on an
international scale.
The strategic partnership with HWC Movement lets us
invite the project of “the best practices” from the HWC
network to take part in the 2006 Festival. All the other
participants of the Festival are network partners of the
streetfootballworld which the first and the only network
to join various football projects, initiatives,
organizations and associations for the development
through football. Currently, (February 2006), over 80
partners of the network exchange their knowledge,
organize a forum as well as a number of different events
together, they keep in touch with one another and
cooperate within the network.
Teams from 24 network partner projects are preparing for
the participation in the 2006 Festival. So far, 22 teams
have been invited, 18 out of which have confirmed their
attendance, and our task is to evaluate the situation of
various world regions with a view to choosing and
gathering all the participants by February 28th
2006.
We deem the work of the Polish project to be an example
of a good practice marked by an innovative approach and
efforts towards a solid local and regional development.
The opinion that we have been given by our colleagues
from the Homeless World Cup (Headquarters) was also very
favourable, and therefore, we would like to officially
invite the Polish project to the 2006 Festival with a
view to promoting the work of the HWC and to celebrating
the football’s power together.
A the same time, we would like to stress the fact that
we need to get the confirmation of your participation in
double quick time (by February 28th) to
include you in the whole preparation process. On receipt
of your reply (hopefully a positive one), we will send
you an e-mail next week where all the possible issues on
our part will be explained.

Art on the ball
Football is more than just kicking a
ball around. Football is art, culture
and lifestyle. It's the same game all
over the world, but it's never exactly
the same.In all the diverse regions
across the world, players interpret the
game in their own way. But these diverse
local cultures and traditions are not
the only input coining the tactics,
rules, and the way the game is played.
It is also shaped by football’s global
development – and that creates a
local-global streetfootball culture.
Official element of the artistic and
cultural programme
The official FIFA World Cup 2006™
artistic and cultural programme will
make the diversity of football and its
cultural dimension visible.
streetfootballworld is one of the twelve
projects so far selected by the World
Cup organisation committee to provide
the cultural surround for the World
CupTM. The work of artists and cultural
practitioners will be presented around
the street football
stadium in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district,
providing an insight into the street
football cultures in the countries
taking part.
Football is a global language,
understood everywhere, accessible
wherever you go. Football can mediate
cultural content – and disseminate it to
young people and adults with hardly any
previous access to culture. And long
before the Streetfootball World
Championship the Berliners will be
getting in the mood for the event, with
poster-size art photography shown on
suitable sites
around the streets of the city. Artists
and architects are also involved in
landscaping the festival site in
Kreuzberg - and during the World Cup,
the
Film Box
will show short films from the project
countries.
